Change the power connector orientation where possible or force a restart Here's what you can do if your Surface isn't charging when the power connector light is on. If you already have the power supply plugged in, the problem may be with the power supply or battery. If you haven’t done so already, plug in the power supply and charge your Surface. When the battery icon appears, it means the battery is critically low. After you're done cleaning the connector pins, make sure that the pins are dry, and then reattach the screen to the keyboard. Wet a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and clean the pins on the long, narrow part of the charger that you plug into your Surface. Rub the eraser back and forth across the pins. If it still won’t charge, remove the screen and clean the connectors with a pencil eraser. Look at the Detach key-if it has a flashing green light, the screen and keyboard aren't connected properly.
